Man assaults, rapes mother

News  Date: 04 June 2010

A 22-year-old man from the Zvishavane area outside Beit Bridge, who was irked by his mother’s failure to prepare supper for him, allegedly assaulted her severely with a log before raping her once, police have said. Local police spokesperson Insp Patrick Chademana said the incident occurred last Thursday at around 03:00 at a local village. He said the mother was sleeping in the same kitchen hut with her grandmother, when she was assaulted and raped by her son. “The suspect committed the rape offence in full view of his mother’s grandmother. “The suspect, who is still at large, arrived home during the early hours of last Thursday and demanded food from his mother. Chademana said the accused’s mother then indicated that there was no food, before asking her son why he had come home late. “He then got angry and drew a log from the fireplace and started assaulting his mother all over the body,” he said. After the assault, the suspect then went on to rape his mother in the presence of her grandmother who was also sleeping in the same hut. “The suspect disappeared into the dark after raping his mother once and we have launched a manhunt. We are also appealing to community members to assist us with information,” said Chademana.
