Imposters going around asking for donations for albino forum

News  Date: 25 June 2010

Limpopo Gospel star and also the chairperson of the Limpopo Albinism Forum, Rapson Rambuwani, warned members of the community not to donate money to an albino crook who is collecting money in the name of the forum.

Rambuwani discovered the imposter, who is moving around the Hlanganani area, collecting thousands of rands pretending that he is from the albino forum. He explained that the man displays documents with the forum´s name and stamp on. He then requests people to donate money for buying medication to protect albino people´s skin against the sun.

Rambuwani said there is no need for anyone to move around asking for donations, because the Department of Health and the Munna Ndi Nnyi Men’s Forum have sponsored the albino community with a large quantity of medication. "Those guys are fortune seekers who want to rob people of their hard-earned cash. The Vhembe Albinism Forum will never keep quiet when people are being robbed," he said.

"We have lots and lots of medication which we are handing over, free of charge, to those who suffer from albinism. The medication is kept at Tshilidzini Special School," said Rambuwani.

Rambuwani said the imposter was spotted after a drinking spree, offering money to women for sexual favours. It may very well be a group of crooks committing such fraud. Rapson said he once confronted three men who quickly ran away, because they knew that what they were doing was wrong.

"I have also heard that the guys are always drunk and they never use the money for the intended purpose. As a forum, we have done our best to improve the lives of those who suffer from albinism and we have organised government grants for them. We will obviously get them and steps will have to be taken against them," he said.

The forum also discussed the matter with the SAPS, asking them not to put a police stamp on the form asking for donations.
