Vho Thovhele Calvin Aifheli Nelwamondo has urged his subjects to report all forms of criminality and expose all criminals.

Nelwamondo was speaking to delegates from different stakeholders during a crime awareness campaign at the Lwamondo Munna Ndi Nnyi offices outside Thohoyandou. The workshop, which drew many representatives from community structures and government, is the brainchild of the Vuwani police, who were partnered by Munna Ndi Nnyi Men’s Forum.

The coordinator of the workshop, Warrant Officer Elijah Malatjie, who is also the spokesperson of the Vuwani police, said the prevalence of crime in Sector 1 warranted such a workshop. He said the police they had plans in place to curb crime, but they alone could not achieve their objectives. He said that crime happened in communities and people feared reporting it to police.

“We felt that there was no way we could overcome this scourge alone without the involvement of our communities. Crime occurs in the villages and some of the criminals are known by members of the community,” he said. “We are very hopeful that people will feel free to come forward with information that will be of help. In that way, we will be able to beat crime," he added. Mr Bardwell Mufunwaini of Munna Ndi Nnyi Men’s Forum said the community was faced with many challenges. “We still have people who are not changing and still abuse women and children. People are being mugged and many other crimes happen in the villages. We feel this has to come to an end, so that we have a crime-free society. Together with the police we can comeup with something that could be a lasting solution to crime in our locality,” he said.
