HA-DAVHANA – By opening an electricity project at Ha-Davhana village last Saturday, the Makhado municipality made sure that the tragedy of a resident of the village burning to death by paraffin two years ago, does not happen again.

At the function held at Matamela Primary School at Ha-Davhana, it was announced that Tshirululuni had received 53 units, Mabidi 140 and Balanganani 602. Mirror learnt that the electricity projects of Mabidi and Balanganani (Ward 13) and Tshirululuni (Ward 22) cost the municipality about R2,5 million.

The electrification of the three villages started in 2001and was completed in July 2003 by Avex Electricity Construction. During the function, members of the opposition were fuming about the fact that the municipality was celebrating, while meter boxes in four houses were not working. They also told Mirror that people had not turned up in large numbers, because they had not paid the collection fee of R10 for the cattle slaughtered at the function. "The contractor bought the cattle for them, so why must they pay the R10," they argued.

Regarding the meter boxes that are not working, Mayor Nkuzana said that the Director Technical Services, Mr Masindi Mapholi, would investigate the matter and if he found that the error was on the side of the contractor, he would take the responsibility, and if it was the municipality's error, they would take the responsibility too.

Mrs Nyamulambilu Mulaudzi, one of the beneficiaries, thanked the municipality for electrifying her RDP house.

Cllr Nkuzana said community members must take care of their electricity, adding that it would assist them in conserving nature. Since Mrs Nyamulambilu Mathivha Munyai (61) died, after a fire caused by paraffin exploding when she tried to light her lamp, community members were no longer interested in using paraffin.
