The Levubu police are investigating a case of housebreaking, theft and malicious damage to property, following the bombing of an ATM at the Tshakhuma Spar on Sunday.
The spokesperson for the Levubu police, WO Solly Mukhola, confirmed the incident. He said the incident happened around 04:16 on Sunday.
"The two unknown suspects broke in at the Tshakhuma Spar. According to visuals on the camera, the two covered their heads with plastic containers. They were carrying a truck battery, which they connected to the ATM and bombed it," he said.
He added that an undisclosed amount had been stolen. "We recovered R31 760 on the floor. We are still not sure about the amount of money which had been stolen," said Mukhola.
According to him, three counts of housebreaking, theft and malicious damage to property using explosives, had been opened with the police.
Mukhola is appealing to community members to furnish the police with information that can lead to the arrest of the two. "We are appealing to members of the community to continue working closely with the police, so that the culprit can be brought to book."
