TSHITALE – Calvin Basikiti (23) of Masakona Village will spend the next two years in jail for assault. His case was finalised in the Tshitale Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
The case follows an incident that took place at Masakona village in the Tshitale area during the night of August 30, this year, at about 21:00.
The court heard that the complainant was walking in the street during the night of the incident. The complainant is a 23-year-old man, who was in the company of three girls when the incident occurred. Along the way, he met the accused. Basikiti was going in the opposite direction.
When they met Basikiti, he asked the complainant why he was so big-headed. The complainant replied by indicating that he was nothing of the kind. The court further heard that Basikiti then produced a knife and stabbed the complainant in the forehead, without asking him any further question.
The complainant started bleeding profusely seconds thereafter, from the open wounds that were visible on his face. The girls who were in the company of the complainant ran away after the incident. The complainant was taken to the local clinic, where he was treated and discharged the following morning.
Basikiti was arrested the following day. He appeared in the same court several times before the matter was finally laid to rest on Tuesday. He was not given any option to pay a fine.
