News  Date: 15 October 2010

The Makhado police launched a massive manhunt for two suspects on Monday, following a daring robbery in Louis Trichardt´s CBD. They have called upon the public to assist them in apprehending the suspects.

The robbery unfolded in front of ABSA Bank in Krogh Street.

According to local police spokesperson Capt Maano Sadike, two suspects pretended to be waiting in a queue in front of the bank. As a cash-in-transit security vehicle arrived, they sprang into action and overpowered the driver of the vehicle and seized two money containers.

The suspects took the containers and fled the scene in a getaway vehicle that was waiting across the street. The vehicle was later found abandoned near Laerskool Louis Trichardt.

Early investigations by the police revealed that the number plates on the vehicle were forged and that it had been stolen in Pretoria. A case of robbery with aggravating circumstances is being investigated.

At the time of going to press, no arrests had been made. The robbery follows just three days after the botched cash-in-transit robbery on the Mailaskop Road during which the police shot dead seven suspected robbers.

Anybody with information regarding Monday´s robbery is requested to phone the detectives on their standby number at tel. 082 319 9638.
