Roxy on the road to recovery

News  Date: 19 November 2010

Roxy McCabe, daughter of Pam McCabe of Louis Trichardt, is recovering well after being involved in a horrific car accident on September 10 in Durban, the night of her 24th birthday. As a result of the accident, Roxy suffered severe brain and physical injuries.

Nine weeks after the accident, Roxy is improving daily and is fighting every day through the toughest challenge of her life. She has now recovered her speech and the partial use of her right arm and the next hurdle is to learn to walk again.

“But with the determination and sheer willpower that she has shown, we are confident that Roxy will make a full recovery,” says Pam.

Roxy will need intensive rehabilitation, care and support in order to see her through this time and achieve her goal of a full recovery. Since her accident, mom Pam has been at her bedside at the Entabeni Life Rehabilitation Centre in Durban. Pam will stay at her side until the end of December, when a decision can be taken whether to transfer her to a rehabilitation centre in Johannesburg.

“The support we have received from everyone, too many to name, has been overwhelming,” said Pam.

Pam, her sister Lois, her partner Gavan, son Cuan and Roxy this week sincerely thanked the community for their love, prayers, messages, phone calls, SMSes and donations towards Roxy’s rehabilitation. They also thanked Lion of the North Lodge for the fundraising function organised on October 31 in aid of Roxy’s recovery fund.

“The support that we have received has pulled us through what has been the most difficult time of our lives,” says Pam.

Should anyone wish to assist in any way, they can phone Sandy van Niekerk (082 897 3947), Lodene Purdon (083 375 3671) or Gavan Watson (083 729 8027) for details.

“Please do not stop the prayers, positive thoughts and messages. They are all highly appreciated and play a huge role in Roxy’s recovery,” was mom Pam’s plea.
