Criminals, be warned. Limpopo police have declared war against criminals and they are promising holiday makers and the citizens of this province a ‘crime-free holidays.’
Provincial spokesperson, Col Motjafela Mojapelo, said they have already arrested more than 150 people since they started with their pre-festive season operation which started two weeks ago. The people arrested were facing charges of robbery, house-breaking, theft, drunk-driving and others. “Of these people, 35 of them were wanted for serious crimes like armed robbery and house-breaking,” said Mojapleo.
Mojapelo said the operations, which are conducted through-out the week, target hot spots that are known for criminal activities in the communities. “We also target drinking spots where we know that some of the criminals that have been wanted for long are found. He added that they also target businesses that allow under-age children to get into their building as it is against their licence,” said Mojapelo.
Mojapelo said police were concerned about the wanted criminals who are still lingering in the community as they continue to commit more crimes except the ones that they are wanted for. “You find that a person who is wanted for certain crime continue to commit more crimes in the community. This makes us get worried because that person cannot stop committing more crimes until when he is arrested.
Mojapleo said their operation will end in January next year.
