Armed robbers get away with R130 000

MAKAHADO – The Makhado Police are desperately searching for two unknown suspects who robbed R130 000 at the Check Point Warehouse in Unika Street in the Makhado Industrial area last Friday afternoon.

According to a police statement, the two armed robbers gained entrance to the warehouse by cutting the fence. At the warehouse, Messrs Azaz Ahne Nazir Ahmed (23) and his younger brother, Nafaz Ahmed Bambawala (18) were counting the money they had generated for the day.

"We heard that the thugs drew fire arms and pointed them at the two victims, demanding money. The suspects also went to the warehouse office to look if there was still some cash in the safe. They grabbed the money, two cell phones, a bracelet and a wrist watch and assaulted the elder brother, before they fled on foot," said Insp Mbhazima Ndlovu, communication officer of the local SAPS.

In another incident Friday evening, two unknown, armed robbers stole R10 000 in cash at Nandos Makhado. It is alleged that one of the suspects confronted the cashier who was on duty, Muthuhadini Albert Nkhumeleni (25) by pointing a firearm at him, ordering him and his colleagues to lie down, while the other one commanded customers not to get out. "One suspect jumped over the counter and opened the till, and took cash estimated at R10 000, while the other one robbed the 64-year-old Mr Edward Martin Armitage of his wrist watch and R800 in cash.

Ndlovu said that the Police requesting anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact their nearest police station or to call 015 519 4300.
