The Livhusha family of Tshifulanani Fhasi Ha bada, who were still celebrating the return of their mother who disappeared mysteriously last Sunday afternoon, had their excitement cut short when the gogo allegedly committed suicide.

Gogo Matamela Maria Livhusha (62) was found dead early Thursday morning, after allegedly hanging herself.

It is alleged that she was sleeping with her husband Joseph in one room. He did not hear her leave the room, but at around midnight found out that she was missing. He woke others up and a search was launched at the same time by other members of the family, police and neighbours but the search yielded nothing.

It was only in the morning at an adjacent yard that she was found in a kneeling position, next to a small mango tree. She is alleged to have hanged herself. The incident has brought sadness and plunged the family into deep mourning.

Ms Azwinndini Maganu, the dead granny’s daughter, said the latest episode had taken the family by surprise and left them in a state of shock. “Just last week we combed the bushes at Dzindi for almost the whole day. After finding her, we thought that she had survived the evil intentions of faceless beings, and now this happens,” she said.

“My mother was sick and she was weak in such a way that I do not believe she would have had the power to hang herself. Tthe worst part of it her is that her one hand did not function at all. We need answers here. Something, somewhere did not go right and we believe there is more to this hanging than is apparent at face value,” she said.

She said the family was also disturbed by the fact that the mango tree at which she is alleged to have hanged herself is so small that it could not carry her weight . “We are very suspicious of this hanging and her disappearance at the river. We just feel that somewhere, somehow, somebody is hiding the truth and this is hurting us as a family,“ she said

The grieving husband, Joseph, said the death had devastated him and left a void in the family. “We have been married for nearlty 50 years. We were inseperable, and I never thought we would part ways like this,” he said. He said he was asleep when he heard noises in the room. "I woke up and found that she was awake, but did not have a thought that she was up to something."

He said he fell asleep again and that was when his wife got the chance to sneak out of the room. “When I woke up, I found that she was not in the room. I went out and called my daughter and together we searched the whole house but found nothing,” he said.

He said his son went to the river where she had been found the previous weekend but he also did not find her.

“We are devastated as a family; we will always remember the good times we had with her."
