Four Beit Bridge women who had allegedly connived and kidnapped another local woman, whom they accused of dating a friend´s boyfriend, before severely assaulting her several times with broomsticks, have been granted bail by the local High Court.
Sibusisiwe Chuma (19) and Sheila Mbedzi (25), both of 36 Flamboyant Road in the border town, Charity Mahlawu (20) of House Number 2085 Dulibadzimu and Sinikiwe Moyo (21) of 1797 Dulibadzimu in Beit Bridge were each granted a US$ 100 bail when they appeared before local magistrate Miss Gloria Takundwa on charges of assault and kidnapping.
The case was postponed to March 28. The prosecutor, Mr Jabulani Mberesi, said that on February 23, the four accused persons teamed up and drove to the victim´s home in Dulibadzimu, armed with broomsticks. On arrival at the complainant´s house, the quartet confronted the woman, accusing her of having an affair with a man who is in love with one of them.
They then assaulted her with clenched fists, shoes and broomsticks, resulting in the complainant´s sustaining a swollen eye. They then ordered the woman into their car before driving to their house in the low-density area, where they subjected her to further beating and humiliation, the court heard. They detained the woman for several hours, after which they tore off her clothes before ordering her to leaving the house in tatters.
The complainant proceeded to the local police station, where she made a report, leading to the quartet´s arrest.
