Travelling long distances to Elim Hospital for pregnant mothers of Vleifontein and the surrounding villages will now be a thing of the past. This comes after the Limpopo´s Department of Health and Social Development has built a brand new health centre at the township.

The centre was built after women in the township and the surrounding villages had complained about not having access to the health services they needed.

The centre was officially opened by the executive mayor of the Vhembe District Municipality, Cllr Falaza Mdaka, who said that government was committed to taking services to the people. He added that the government had built, renovated and improved many health facilities in various parts of the country. "We want all the residents to have an access to better and affordable health services. The community of Vleifontein and the surrounding villages should take good care of this health facility," said Mdaka.

He encouraged members of the community to go for TB testing and those who have already been diagnosed should stick to TB healing programmes.

The health facility was built at a cost of R8 million. According to the general manager of health in the district, Mr Pandelani Ramawa, the centre will also provide anti-retroviral medication for HIV/Aids patients. He added that the facility was a relief to pregnant mothers, because the centre had a maternity ward.
