THONONDA - Learners went on the rampage last week, after allegations that the principal of Tshipange Primary has pointed at a teacher with a firearm last Thursday. The teacher is the SGB chairperson of Tshipange Primary.
An angry mob marched to hand over a memorandum to the police at Siloam as well as the Nzhelele East Circuit of Education, protesting against the principal.
Amongst others, the rioters demanded that the principal should be arrested immediately, his firearm should be confiscated and that the police must patrol Thononda Village regularly, in order to protect the villagers.
They further stated that the Nzhelele East Circuit should intervene and remove the principal from Tshipange Primary and employ him somewhere else.
In the memorandum, the group also threatened that the learners will be removed from Tshipange.
Capt Nndanganeni Thomas Masindi received the memorandum on behalf of the Siloam Police Station Commissioner. Masindi said the docket has been submitted to the Public Prosecuter for investigation. He further said that the police are going to patrol Thononda Village.
The local Civic Association also expressed discontent with the situation, while members of the community added that the case should be forwarded to the Regional Manager of Education and also to the provincial Department of Education.
The protestors also threatened that if the principal came to the school again, "there would be no peace at Thononda."
The Circuit Manager, Mrs Ndiitwani received the memorandum and told the group that the suspect will be suspended until the problem is solved. "Learners must return to school on Tuesday and I will come to address the people on Tuesday," she said.
