TSHIMBUPFE - It was a glamorous and joyful occasion for the residents of Thondoni in Tshimbupfe on Saturday, during the birthday celebrations of the senior citizen and veteran who turned 110 years old and participated a lot in different activities around Venda.
Dignitaries from different places around Venda were present to celebrate with the old woman who devoted her life to the Vhavenda people and played a definite role in the community.
Mrs Mudzunga Mukwevho (110) was delighted when her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren decided to organise a birthday party to honour her for her role in maintaining them.
Mudzunga is the princess of the late Chief Sigwavhulimu Netshimbupfe, of the Tshimbupfe clan. The veteran was blessed with five children: three girls and two boys.
Unfortunately, three of her children have already passed away. She has 54 grandchildren, 92 great-grand children and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
It was unbelievable when Mudzunga demonstrated to a flock of people during the celebration that she still cooks foods of her choice, walks unaided, works hard, and sees and hears properly, despite her advanced age.
Mudzunga ran various initiation schools for girls in different parts of Venda and was known as "Nyamatei," which means the leader and managing director of schools.
She is a vegetarian who likes porridge, milk, biscuits, fruits and vegetables.
In her response, Mudzunga thanked all people who help to organise the party for her. She thanked God for blessing her with long life.
