The Louis Trichardt to Polokwane Taxi Association has written yet another letter to the Makhado Municipality, pleading with them to fix the road and put speed humps to reduce the speed of cars passing by the Eltivillas taxi rank.
The second letter was written after the association realised that the municipality was not replying to their first letter. The association has recently reported a number of accidents in which pedestrians were nearly knocked down by reckless drivers at the taxi rank.
Some of the taxi association members said the municipality should take time to look around and monitor the situation at various taxi ranks. The Eltivillas taxi rank manager, Mr Simon Maumela, said the situation didn´t look good to the communities that they served. He added that the municipality should start off by fixing the potholes, since they are the most dangerous problems and can damage cars.
Makhado Municipality spokesperson Mr Louis Bobodi said the muncipality hadn´t received any letter from the taxi association, but that the association had had a meeting with Mr Mugari instead, where they were advised to raise their concerns in writing. Mr Tendani Makananise of the association denied that they had had a meeting with the municipality. He urged the municipality to take into account that the taxi rank was becoming more dangerous every day.
