MAPATE – The police in Thohoyandou have opened an attempted murder case, following an incident that happened last Wednesday at Mapate Village. A middle aged female was found badly beaten inside her house.

According to a spokesperson of the SAPS Vhembe, the police were alerted by community members and on their arrival, they found the victim unable to speak. She was taken to the local hospital for treatment.

"The motive behind the beating has not yet been established at this stage and the police arrested a 25-year-old male, who is the son of the victim," the spokesperson said.

The suspect will appear in court soon.

Meanwhile, the Levubu police have opened a rape case after a 35-year-old woman was raped last Saturday.

According to the police, the victim was standing against a fence talking to another man.

It is alleged that her husband emerged and an argument broke out, as the husband accused the wife that she has a love affair with another man.

The victim reported to the police that she was severely assaulted by her husband who later forced her to the house and raped her.
