MAKHADO (LOUIS TRICHARDT) – A cloud of mystery still surrounds the events leading up to the fatal shooting of Mrs Shaida Ismail (43) on Sunday evening.
Her husband, Mr Suliman Ismail (44), was arrested shortly after the incident on a charge of murder. Suliman, better known as Solly, is the manager of Check-out Store in Louis Trichardt. The incident took place just after 20:00 at the couple's home in Forestry Street. Mrs Ismail died on the scene.
Ismail was brought before the court on Monday. No plea was entered and he was granted bail of R10 000. His bail application followed after fellow detainees allegedly assaulted him while he was in custody. He is to appear in court again on December 5.
According to the police spokesperson for the Far North area, Capt Ailwei Mushavhanamadi, the shooting followed an alleged argument between Ismail and his wife. No further details were given with regard to the case. Meanwhile, several law enforcers expressed their concern over the way in which the police handled the investigation. It is feared that, due to a lack of control, policepersonnel and family members had severely disturbed the crime scene.
