One of the oldest residents of Thohoyandou Unit C, granny Musundwa Dzaga, is no more ...
She has been hailed by her community as a champion of education as she wanted all in the village to get an education. Dzaga, the grandmother of Takalani Dzaga, the director of communications and marketing at the University of Venda, passed away last Monday and was laid to rest at the Thulamela Cemetry at Mbaleni on Sunday. She was 102 years old and would have celebrated her 103rd birthday tomorrow (Saturday).
Takalani Dzaga expressed his profound gratitude to his late grandmother for the role that she played in bringing them up and encouraging them to devote most of their time to their studies. He added that his late grandmother was one of a few people of her age who could read and write.
Takalani Thari, a former Thulamela councillor, spoke of the passion Dzaga showed for education, saying that she would frequently look at the work of her grandchildren. “This is a granny one could not ignore. She showed much passion for the English language and she would teach her grandchildren after school," he said.
In his sermon, Dr Maswole Petrus Ragimana of The Living Gospel World Mission encouraged family members and other mourners to follow in the footsteps of the late Musundawa Dzaga. He reiterated the importance of respecting the elders and believing in God.
She is survived by eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
