In a bid to inform pupils regarding recycling and how it can be benefit the environment, a Univen student has come up with an innovative idea.

Livhuwani Mudau visited Liivha Secondary School last week and launched a campaign where all pupils will be expected to bring at least one empty tin can every day.

Operating under the theme My Home is Green, I am Green, the project seems destined for great things. During the first day at the school, more than 3 000 used cans were collected.

To motivate the pupils further, she advised them to enter a collect-a-can competition, saying that there was a great likelihood that they could win cash prizes that could go towards the development of the school.

Livhuwani Mudau, who is also the founder of the Univen recycling project, started a few years ago, said there was a need for such an initiative at schools. She said pupils could transform their immediate environment and, if spread all over the country, "we could soon be speaking of a pollution-free environment. I am still more than committed to seeing my dream of a pollution-free environment become a reality. One way of achieving this is by extending the network of volunteers by taking learners on board,” she said.
