MANIINI – Members of the SAPS from all around the province, visited the rural area of Maniini, one of the areas with the highest crime rates, last Saturday.
According to a spokesperson for the community, the women and children are tired of rape and abuse, and that is why they pleaded with the police team to visit the area. The traditional leaders, community policing forum and civic structures were among the people who participated in the crime awareness campaign, with the aim to reduce the high crime rate in the area of Maniini.
Provincial Commissioner Calvin Sengani said that he did not believe that the people of Maniini were still going to experience this high rate of crime, due to the intervention of the SAPS team all over the province. He also stated that the women and children must be able to identify the suspects to make it easy for the police investigators to arrest those suspects as soon as possible.
"We as police officers are still going to patrol this area of Maniini day and night to put a stop to all these crimes, not just reduce them. We are unhappy if our elders are living in fear because of the high crime rate. Our pensioners must live in peace," he said.
After the function, the provincial commissioner and his assistant commissioners called the young children to discuss their problems within the area. The children received stationery from the SAPS.
