Somalian businessman shot and wounded during robbery

A 23-year-old Somalian businessman was shot and wounded at Gogobole village in the Sinthumule area on Friday (14/10), police have said.

Two unknown men apparently entered a Somalian-owned shop in the village and demanded money at gunpoint. After seeing that the businessman, Mr Eyakor Dawit, was reluctant to give them money, they shot him in the leg.

Tshilwavhusiku police spokesperson Const Godwin Mahuwa said that Dawit was shot in the right knee. "He was wounded and was rushed to the Louis Trichardt Memorial Hospital," said Mahuwa.

According to Mahuwa, the incident happened at about 10:05 that morning. He added that the police had opened two counts of robbery and attempted murder.

"An undisclosed amount of money was taken as well as a cell phone and airtime," Mahuwa said, adding that no one had been arrested yet and the police investigation was still continuing.

He appealed to anyone with information that could lead to the culprits´ arrest to contact the police immediately. Anyone with information is advised to contact the police at 015 519 6000 or 082 451 7163.
