Much to the delight of the local communities, the 45-year-old Musina Nancefield Community Hall is getting a facelift after renovations started last week.

The total project value for the renovations amounts to R735 000. The renovation of the hall is expected to be complete on 15 December.

The scope of work include repairs to the existing roofing, installation of modern doors and windows, improvement on ablution facilities, new flooring, improvement of the old stage and renovation of the existing fencing. Mayor Carol Phiri says the renovation is part of the municipality’s infrastructure maintenance plan. “It is very important to maintain our infrastructure, because it is the basis from which the municipality survives. We know that our people have been waiting for this initiative for a long time. I am happy that they understand that we work according to a plan.”

She says the project has already started to make an impact in the local economic development for the people of Musina. “After only one week of its operation, the project has already created 10 jobs for local people who were formerly unemployed. The number is expected to increase, depending on the labour needs, until the completion of the project.”

One of the community members who received the news of the renovation with joy is Thomani Raulinga (34). “We initially thought that the municipality has neglected the facility, but we are happy to see that something is being done.”
