Ismail's case again postponed

News  Date: 06 February 2004

MAKHADO (LOUIS TRICHARDT) - Suliman Ismail (44), who was arrested following the death of his wife, Mrs Shaida Ismail (43), at their home on November 9 last year, again appeared in court on Friday, January 30.

Ismail's case was again postponed, this time until April 16. In the meantime, his case was referred to the Director of Public Prosecution to determine whether or not the State will prosecute in the case. The Sate is at this stage awaiting forensic evidence in the case. This investigation, however, might take months.

Following Ismail's last court appearance on December 5, his attorney, Mr. Zaheer Omar, stated that the State had no case against his client. He said Ismail's arrest was insensitive, especially with regard to the husband-and-wife relationship.

Ismail has still not pleaded, nor has he been charged. Should charges be brought against him, Mr. Omar said, it would probably be murder. In the meantime, Ishmail is still out on R10 000 bail.
