Madimbo community want to fight SANDF for land

News  Date: 06 February 2004

MADIMBO - The Madimbo Community and the surrounding villages are threatening to take the South African National Defence Force to court, after the SANDF refused to give the Madimbo Corridor back to its former occupants.

The Madimbo Corridor is near the Limpopo River, which forms the border between South Africa and Zimbabwe. The residents of Madimbo have claimed their portion of land, which they said is fertile and suitable for agriculture and stock farming.

Although the SANDF heard about the claim, they are still refusing to give back the land to its former occupants. The former occupants were removed during the establishment of the former Venda homeland, and the SANDF uses the Madimbo Corridor for military activities.

Land Claim Commissioner, Masilo Mukona, said legal procedures will be followed if the SANDF refuses to give the land back.
