Benny’s Sports Academy walked away with not only a trophy but a cash prize as well during the South African Sport Awards (SASA) this past Sunday.
Benny’s, who made news headlines early this year when they represented South Africa in France during the Danone Nations’ World Cup, was awarded the SASA Best Developing School trophy. The academy also received R145 000 in cash.
Minister of Sport and Recreation Fikile Mbalula personally congratulated the school from Tshiozwi - historically a disadvantaged area – for managing to conquer all the odds, despite limited resources.
The awards’ aim is to recognise and honour individuals and teams who have excelled both on and off the field. Although the Limpopo Department of Sports, Arts and Culture did not reward Benny’s at their provincial awards, the school has been doing well throughout the year.
Speaking on behalf to the school, Mr David Benny Mufamadi (managing director) said that the pupils and entire staff were overjoyed by the award.
“The sky is the limit,” said Mufamadi.
Kaizer Nengovhela started writing stories for Limpopo Mirror in 2000. Prior to that he had a five year stint at Phala-Phala FM as sports presenter. In 2005 Kaizer received an award from the province's premier as Best Sports Presenter. The same year he was also nominated as Best Sports Reporter by the Makhado Municipality. Kaizer was awarded the Mathatha Tsedu award in 2014.
