The Makhado Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide following the death of a young woman and a 4-year-old girl.
According to a provincial police spokesperson, Lt-Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the accident occurred yesterday evening (18 March) about 20km south of Louis Trichardt on the N1. Two vehicles, travelling in opposite directions, collided head-on with each other.
Upon impact, said Ngoepe, both of the vehicles burst out in flames.
The 4-year-old girl was inside one of the vehicles – a Corsa bakkie – together with the woman aged 25. Both were burned to death before any help could arrive on the scene.
The driver of the second vehicle – a Landrover Discovery – survived the accident. The 34-year-old man, however, sustained serious burn wounds and is recuperating in hospital.
At this stage the cause of the accident is still under investigation by the police.
