A suspected house robber was shot dead by the Makhado Police on Tuesday morning, while the search for two more suspects continued.

According to information gathered at the scene, the police were on the lookout for two, possibly three, suspects who were involved in a house robbery near Tshikota (outside Louis Trichardt) on Monday night. The suspects were apparently spotted along the N1 north, near the Cloud’s End Hotel.

They ran away from the police and fled in a southerly direction into the nearby bushes

One of the suspects allegedly decided to resist arrest, taking a stand near the bushes across from Louis Trichardt Lodge, and aimed a firearm at the pursing police members. He was shot and died on the scene.

Local police spokesperson Const Irene Radzilane confirmed that a shooting incident had occurred, but said that the investigation was still ongoing and that more information would be made available to the media at a later stage.

Members of the Soutpansberg Town Watch are currently on the scene to support the police in their search.
