The SAB League match between Mphego Real Rovers and United Artists, which was played at the Mphego grounds on Sunday, ended in chaqos. The score was 2-2, and with 10 minutes to go, referee Mphireni Mphephu blew the final whistle.
It was evident from the onset that something unusual would happen. A fan of Real Rovers stormed onto the pitch, forcing the referee to stop the game for a while. The captain of Rovers persuaded the man to leave the pitch and the game continued as if nothing had happened.
The home side were the first to blow the trumpet. Their central defender, Ndwakhulu Khorommbi, made no mistake after receiving a beautiful pass from Amos Davhana. The visitors from Lufule village did not just stand aside and look on. They initiated some promising moves from behind, thus forcing their opponents to play with their backs against the wall. They retaliated in the 34th minute through Mpho Nefale. The hosts started to play like a united team again, shortly after Artists’ goal.
Real Rovers took the lead again seven minutes before the half-time whistle. Khodani Tshisikule, who came on as a substitute for Vele Mahalihali, beat the offside trap and scored an easy goal.
United Artists replaced Ambani Tshisikule and Maanda Masakona with Mulalo Tshisikule and Dakalo Ravhura respectively. Real Rovers were defending their lead in the last half. United Artists were awarded a free kick outside the penalty box in the 80th minute. Mulalo Tshisikule scored from the place kick.
The fans for Rovers then threw beer cans on the pitch after the goal. Realising that his safety and that of his assistants was not guaranteed, the referee blew the final whistle.
