Maisa Rainbow were the first to score, but finally lost 1-2 to Madombidzha Arsenal in their Tornado Mulaudzi Soccer Challenge semifinal match at the Tshiozwi grounds on Sunday.
The score was not a true reflection of the game, as Rainbow were dictating terms in all departments throughout the game. The Kutama side should have taken the lead in the fifth minute, had it not been for the fact that Bruce Thavhulo shot wide with only the keeper to beat. Arsenal were forced to effect an early change into their starting line-up, when they replaced the injured Londy Musiamo with Ritshidze Matodzi.
Rainbow took the lead in the 36th minute when Thabiseng Makgoto caught the Arsenal keeper off guard and blasted in a half volley from inside the box. Their celebration was cut short when Tshilidzi Sithari dished a well-cooked pass to the speedy Eric Tshifularo, who scored easily in 38th minute to equalise.
Rainbow missed two clear chances early in the second half. Mulalo Mamphweli and Fhulufhelo Gabara were the culprits in both instances. Rainbow utilised their last substitution chance when they introduced Mpho Muleya for Livhuwani Rasimphi. Muleya added more life into the fading midfield for Rainbow with his dribbling skills.
The much-awaited goal for Arsenal came in the 86th minute via Eric Sefularo, who completed his brace.
