Khubvi Dangerous Darkies were crowned the champions of the Sedzazwau New Year Soccer Tournament last Sunday. They beat Khubvi Peace Makers 1-0 in the final of the tournament at the Khubvi Peace Makers grounds.

A 26th-minute goal by Thinandavha Munyai was good enough to make Khubvi Dangerous Darkies the champions. As if they were going to bury their opponents alive, Peace Makers enjoyed ball possession in the first 20 minutes of the game. They were let down by their strikers, who continued to shoot aimlessly at the goal finish.

Pfunzo Tshikotshi of Peace Makers was lucky to escape with a verbal warning after tackling Rofhiwa Netshitungulu roughly in the 19th minute. Instead of producing a card, the referee, Ms Lufuno Nemagovhani, gave Tshikotshi a tongue lashing.

Dangerous Darkies took the lead in the 26th minute when Thinandavha Munyai received a beautiful pass from Avhatakali Tshivhase and beat the keeper with a ground cutter. Dangerous Darkies looked more dangerous after the goal. They threatened to score again four minutes thereafter. Their dribbling wizard, Rofhiwa Netshitungulu, unleashed a powerful volley from the centre of the pitch. The keeper of Peace Makers, Rofhiwa Mukununde, palmed the ball away for a corner kick.

Peace Makers displayed their frustration by replacing Happy Maluleke with Thabo Radzilani towards the end of the game.

Dangerous Darkies were presented with a cash prize of R900 during a ceremony that was held at the grounds after the game. Khubvi Peace Makers were presented with R600 and the teams that were booted out of the competition in the semifinal stage, Tshiseluselu Tiger Boys and Khubvi African Stars, were each given a consolation prize of R300.

According to one of the organisers of the tournament, Mr Christopher Randima, the tournament was a huge success, despite the fact that it was organized within a short space of time. A local businessman, Mr Nelson Ramagoma, of Sedzazwau Tavern, sponsored the tournament.
