THOHOYANDOU – The renovated Thohoyandou Tennis Courts were handed over to the Thohoyandou Tennis Club, during a ceremony that was held at the courts last Saturday. The renovation work on the courts was completed last month.
According to the Sports and Recreation Officer in the Thulamela Municipaliry, Mr Ronald Makhadi, an amount of R158 000 was used towards the refurbishment of the courts. It took the contractor four weeks to complete the project.
During the ceremony, a representative for the Thulamela Municipality, Cllr VR Tshikovhi, appealed to people to use the facility properly, taking into account the fact that the municipality is faced with a lot of challenges regarding the upgrading and renovating of the sports facilities.
Tshikovhi handed over the keys to the tennis courts to the founder of the Thohoyandou Tennis Club, Mr Gideon Ramulifho. In response to what Tshikovhi said, Ramulifho stated that his club has produced the best tennis players in the area over the past years, despite the lack of proper facilities in the area.
He further stated that his club is committed to using the facility effectively and that a lot of people will benefit from it, saying that many parents are showing their confidence in the club by sending their children in droves for tennis lessons.
Makhadi also said that they will install polo lights around the tennis courts in a few weeks' time, so that the enthusiastic players can use the facilities at night.
