RABALI – The Vodacom Promotional League match between the Dolphins Football Club and Rabali Pull Together, which was scheduled for Saturday at the Rabali Stadium, was a disaster. The visitors, Dolphins FC arrived at the stadium 30 minutes before the 15:50 kick-off time.
At 15:30 the referee proceeded to the pitch and blew the whistle summoning the teams to the pitch. The players for Dolphins adhered to the call. The home side sent two male officials to the pitch. One of the men had a bundle of papers in his hand.
After a long discussion with the referee, the match official blew the whistle to indicate that the match was called off. According to the referee the officials from Rabali Pull Together told him that they were not prepared to play the match that day as it was scheduled for the following day (Sunday) as per fixtures list in their possession.
The calling off of the match has evidently created the impression among officials and players of Dolphins that the match would be declared a walkover in their favour.
"We are going to get free points," said a happy Dolphins coach, Mr Ngoako Ramalahla while leaving the pitch.
During an interview with Mirror, the league co-ordinator Mr Peter Mathekga acknowledged that his office has made a mistake and created confusion among the clubs by giving the clubs the fixtures containing different dates. He said that the match will be replayed at a later date and that the Dolphins will be compensated for their travelling costs.
