Boxing fans in Limpopo will be treated to a feast of boxing when Isaac Hlatswayo and Benedict Dlamini which be facing each other on October 11, at the Oasis Motel.
The two lads, both from Limpopo, will be fighting for the South African Lightweight title, staged by Balance Rhythm Defense Promotions (BRDP). Hlatswayo, who is the champion, is from Balance Rhythm Defense Boxing Academy (BRDBA), while Dlamini, the challenger, is from the Nick Durant Boxing Gym.
Ironically, the two boxers started out together when they were young. They were also in the same stable, BRDP, in 2001. Dlamini, who has a record of 17 wins and one loss in his professional career, was with Brian Mitchell before he joined BRDP in 2001. He then went back to Mitchell before he joined Durant last year. Hlatswayo, who was voted prospect of the year in 2001, started his professional career with BRDP. He has a record of fifteen fights, all of which he won. He became the Junior Welterweight Champion of this country in October 2000, after he had defeated Martin Jacobs. He also defeated Luky Lewele in their fight, scheduled over ten rounds, at Carnival City on May 31. On February 13 this year, he defended his title against Kaizer Mabuza. The full bill is: Calvin Mohonisi vs Avhashoni Mbedzi (junior welterweight over six rounds), Patrick Mthembu vs Thomas Sadike (junior welterweight over six rounds), Willie Mabasa vs Sydney Sindane (featherweight over six rounds), Charity Mukondeleli vs Ronald Parks (junior flyweight over six rounds) while Balanganani Ndou will fight Kenneth Denda in the featherweight division, scheduled over four rounds.
At the time of going to press, an opponent for Michael Baloyi, the elder brother of Cassius Baloyi, was still to be confirmed, as Sipho Mukhithi was going to fight in another tournament in Gauteng.
