Development Stars bury Home Defenders alive

Sport  Date: 02 March 2012

In their SAB league match that was played at the FNB Makwarela Stadium on Sunday afternoon, Makwarela Development Stars showed Makonde Home Defenders no mercy when they brutally walloped them 4-0 to strengthen their log leadership.

It was clear from the onset that Home Defenders were going to be buried alive as there was no cohesion in their midfielders. It took Development Stars 19 minutes to open their account. Rixaka Makondo won the ball in a scramble outside the box and beat the keeper.

Metro Mathabe was the first player to be reprimanded with a card. He tackled Patrick Muthivhi roughly and the referee, Mr Mphireni Mphephu, was quick to produce yellow. The home side was still one goal up at the end of the first half.

The other player who was booked for rough tackling was Anzani Mukwevho of Home Defenders. The players and officials of Home Defenders shouted abusive words towards the referee soon afterwards. They accused the referee of favouritism after Mphephu remained silent at a time when everyone thought he would blow the whistle and award Defenders a penalty.

Development Stars increased the margin in the 58th minute. Muvhofhololi Mudanalwo made no mistake after receiving a neat pass from Vongani Musetha. Patrick Muthivhi of Development Stars was booked for ignoring the whistle. Muthivhi kicked the ball away after Mphephu had already blown it for an offside.

Muvhofhololi Mudanalwo came close to scoring again a little later, but his close-range shot went wide. The keeper of Home Defenders, Muofhe Mudau, missed the ball and Rixaka Makondo, who was in a perfect scoring position, finished off a rebound. Collins Madlati scored the fourth later in the game.
