Msowoya break Leopards’ hearts

Chiukepo Msowoya’s late goal helped Platinum Stars to register a 3-2 victory over Black Leopards when the two sides met in an Absa Premiership clash at the Giyani Stadium on Sunday evening.

The former captain of Leopards and now a striker for Platinum Stars, Robert Ng’ambi, scored a brace in the opening 11 minutes of the match, before Mongezi Bobe also found the back of the net twice to level matters for the home side.

The visitors opened the scoring in the second minute when an unmarked Ng’ambi fired home from the centre of the penalty area when Leopards failed to clear a long throw from Vuyo Mere. The visitors doubled their lead nine minutes later through a similar move, which saw Mere delivering a cross from the left. Ng’ambi was yet again given enough room inside the box to score his second goal of the match, making the score2-0.

However, the home side reduced the deficit in the 26th minute, when Bobe connected with a loose ball just outside the Stars’ penalty area to fire an unstoppable low shot past the diving Jackson Mabokwane, making it 2-1.

The Leopards captain then completed the comeback five minutes before the break when he connected with a cross from Luyolo Mapolisa on the right side of the box to beat Mabokwane with a side footed volley. The score was now 2-2.

The second half produced less goalmouth action, but Leopards missed a great opportunity to take the lead for the first time in the 74th minute when Joshua Obaje connected with a cross from Bobe, but his header missed the target.

Mere had a chance to win it for Stars at the other end, but saw his low shot turned around the post by Omony. However, Msowoya proved to be the hero for Dikwena in the 87th minute when he headed a Mere cross past Omony to hand his side their third win in as many league matches.

The loss sees Leopards remain second from the bottom on the log. - Backpagemedia
