Phungo All Stars held the current log leaders of the Vodacom league, Baroka FC, to a 1-all draw in Eltivilas on Saturday.
Although Baroka had conceded an early goal, they did not lose their fighting spirit. Stars' goal came about when Mandisi Ngubane caught the visitors' defence off-guard after receiving a good pass from fellow striker Justice Rasebotse.
Though Baroka had the lion's share of the ball possession throughout the match, they lacked a clear-cut final pass that could have helped them gain more than just a point. Stars could have gone 3-0 up before half time, but their strikers let them down.
Early in the second half, Stars introduced Ivan Mahangwahaya and Kamokgelo Molapitsi for Phumudzo Ralivhona and Mashudu Nemakhavhani respectively. Baroka responded by replacing David Moseri, Hlabane Kutumela and Oscar Ntsouane for Kuiso Makgahle, Booi Pilusa and Letsoalo Mahoro. Their introduction changed the complexion of the match as the home team kept on running for cover.
Thabiso Kutumela got the equaliser for the Mphahlele outfit in the 80th minute after he was afforded space to pick his spot. The players who went for the referee's book for different infringements were Dion Phiri and Lutendo Mulaudzi for Stars.
