The Vodacom Promotional League match between Phungo All Stars and Basel FC at the Makwarela Stadium on Saturday ended in a goalless draw.
The absence of Japhta Mabosho and Gift Ramaxwaila from the Basel strike force was evident from the onset. The defence of All Stars was on leave, as there was nobody to trouble them.
Realising that their scoring chances were slim, Basel soon replaced their striker, Lebogang Sithole, with Livhuwani Netshiendeulu. He caused an upset in the 24th minute, when he fumbled at the goal line with the keeper of All Stars, Reason Mbedzi, already beaten.
The technical staff of Basel could not forgive Netshiendeulu for that and they replaced him, despite the fact that he had come on as a substitute.
Tsepo Phelwane of Basel was reprimanded with a card for handling the ball intentionally. Instead of producing red, the Tzaneen-based referee, Mr Quality Kgapane, flashed yellow.
All Stars’ keeper, Reason Mbedzi, sustained an knee injury early in the second half and was replaced with Phumudzo Ramago. Basel later replaced Tsepo Phelwane and Khumbudzo Muvhango with Toney Lewele and Shonisani Rambebu respectively.
The results of the other Vodacom Promotional League matches, which were also played on Saturday, are: Blue Rocks 2, Baroka 0; Giyani Hotspurs 2, Dinare FC 1; Rospa United 2, Mighty FC 0; The Dolphins 0, Super Eagles 3; Nobela All Stars 4, Modimolle Aces 2 and Magezi FC 2, Fanang Diatla.
