Jomo Cosmos too strong for Dynamos

GIYANI – Dynamos have been booted out of the lucrative Coca-Cola Cup Competition. This follows their 0-2 defeat at the hands of Jomo Cosmos at the Giyani Stadium on Sunday.

Dynamos was weakened when their diminutive striker, Josam Ndou left the pitch with a knee injury in the 20th minute. He was replaced with Joel Seroba.

The team from Limpopo Province played entertaining football throughout the first half, but Sandras Kumwenda on whom they had pinned their hopes, was unlucky. Kumwenda caused an upset when he miskicked the ball, with the Cosmos keeper, Avril Phadi well beaten in the 18th minute.

Cosmos fight back gallantly even though their midfielder, Alfred Phiri was cautioned for rough play. The Cosmos top scorer, Essau Kanyenda was marked tightly in the first half.

Things turned against the domestic boys in the last half of the game. They were out of touch for the better part of the last stanza. And as such fought with their backs against the wall. Their replacement of Jacky Ledwaba with Sello Ledingwane did not change the complexion of the game.

Cosmos were rewarded in the 54th minute, when Essau Kanyenda headed home a place kick taken by Dikgang Mabalane. Kanyenda forced his way through the Dynamos defence and increased the tally moments thereafter.

The right back for Dynamos, Gerald Mtshali was booked for an illegal tackle on Essau Kanyenda. To rub salt into Dynamos' wounds, referee Ace Ncobo reduced them to ten men late in the game. Goalkeeper Aime Kitenge was given marching orders for kicking Dikgang Mabalane on the head. A defender, Tafumaneyi Dodo, kept goal for the remainder of the game.
