Fabulous prizes will be distributed to the four teams taking part in the Maranzhe Youth Day Soccer Tournament. The annual event will be staged at the Maranzhe grounds on Saturday.
According to one of the organizers of the tournament, Mr Calvin Sihwili, the four teams that will battle for the championship are Tshivhilidulu Hungry Lions, Vondo Vibes, Matondoni Home Sweepers and the defending champions, Maranzhe Hungry Lions.
Sihwili said that the winners would walk away with R3 500, gold medals, a floating trophy and two soccer balls. The runners-up will take home R1 500, silver medals and two soccer balls.
R700, bronze medals and two soccer balls are awaiting the team that will obtain the third position, while the fourth-placed team will be presented with R500 and two soccer balls. According to Sihwili, there will be individual awards for the best players in the tournament. The top goal scorer, best goalkeeper, best player and the best young player of the tournament will be rewarded during a prize-giving ceremony that will be held at the grounds shortly after the final match.
Sihwili further indicated that Maranzhe Hungry Lions will also reward their own players whose performance was outstanding during the past season. According to him, the team’s top goal scorer, best young player of the season, most improved player, players’ player of the season, supporters’ player of the season and the most disciplined player will receive awards during the ceremony.
Sihwili further stated that a KwaZulu Natal-based businessman would sponsor the tournament.
