Matondoni Home Sweepers were crowned the Maranzhe Youth Day Soccer Tournament champions. They beat Tshivhilidulu Hungry Lions 4-2 in the final, that was played at the Maranzhe ground last Saturday.
Home Sweepers were presented with a floating trophy, R3 500, gold medals and two soccer balls during a prize-giving ceremony that was held at the grounds after the final match.
Tshivhilidulu Hungry Lions received R1 500, silver medals and two soccer balls, while the third-placed side, Maranzhe Hungry Lions, received R700, bronze medals and two soccer balls. The fourth-placed team in the competition, Vondo Vibes, received a consolation prize of R500 and two soccer balls.
The individual players whose performances were outstanding during the tournament received prizes during the ceremony. The top goal scorers, Mukhethwa Masuwanyise and Richard Muluvhu, both of Maranzhe Hungry Lions, received trophies each in recognition of their scoring two goals apiece. The Man of the Match in each of the four matches, Khuthadzho Khorommbi (Tshivhilidulu Hungry Lions), Takalani Nevondo (Vondo Vibes), Mulisa Sihwili (Maranzhe Hungry Lions) and Sailor Sigudu (Tshivhilidulu Hungry Lions), were also presented with trophies. The best goalkeeper of the tournament was Jeffrey Mafunzwaini of Matondoni Home Sweepers.
Maranzhe Hungry Lions also rewarded their own individual players whose performance was outstanding during the past season. They are: Pfarelo Nemaranzhe (top goal scorer), Mudalo Mbulaheni (players’ player of the season), Mulisa Sihwili (supporters’ player of the season and most improved player), Samuel Khakhu (most disciplined player), Mukhethwa Masuwanyise (chairman’s award) and Mbulaheni Mudalo (player of the season).
Frank is a Human Resources Manager at the Department of Public Works in Limpopo. He is the longest serving correspondent of the Mirror, having joined us at the end of 1990. He mainly writes sports reports and resides at Tsianda Village. In 2004, Frank won the National Castle League Award, an award for the best reporter in the SAB league in South Africa.
