Matondoni Home Sweepers are still celebrating their tough 4-3 victory over Tshivhilidulu Hungry Lions in the final of the Maranzhe Youth Day Soccer Tournament at the Maranzhe grounds on Saturday.
The winner was determined through a penalty shoot-out as no goals were scored during regulated time.
Hungry Lions spent the better part of the first half running for cover, but the only time Hungry Lions threatened to score in the first half was when Murabeli Sivhugwana went loose from the left corner, but his cross was cleared away for a corner kick. Samuel Mudau of Home Sweepers had his chance in the 34th minute, but his shot missed the goal mouth by inches.
The fans for Home Sweepers were again subjected to huge disappointment, when Rofhiwa Tshivhase fumbled in the goal area, with the Lions keeper already beaten.
Hungry Lions were the superior side when it came to ball possession in the last half. They even fortified their striking force by replacing Murabeli Sivhugwana with Mashudu Phaswana in the 58th minute.
Rudzani Mafunzwaini of Home Sweepers, who came on as a substitute, was cautioned with a card for a late tackle on Owen Netshifhire.
No extra time was added at the end of regulation time and the teams went straight to the penalty shoot-out stage. Home Sweepers scored four through Tshimangadzo Vhengani, Rotondwa Mukwevho, Samuel Mudau and Phuluso Mukhesi while Hungry Lions converted three of their five chances via Sailor Sigudu, Ndivhuwo Sathuma and Owen Netshifhire. Rendani Musandiwa and Mashudu Phaswana shot straight to the keeper.
In the losers’ final of the tournament, Maranzhe Hungry Lions beat Vondo Vibes 4-2.
