Several players of Madombidzha Western Stars playing in the Safa Vhembe SAB league received trophies, medals and certificates for their achievements the past season, during a function held at the Makhado show grounds hall on Saturday evening.
According to the managing director of the team, Mr Mashudu Mulaudzi, the main purpose of the function was to motivate the players. He applauded those who received the awards, as the team regards them as role models for other younger people. "You are the ambassadors of our team," Mulaudzi said.
"Sports is an important vehicle to cause harmonious interaction between people," said Mr George Kubayi, president of Safa Vhembe. Kubayi said he was proud of the quality of sports development in the Sinthumule area, and Vhembe as a whole.
He indicated that the youth must involve themselves in participating in different sporting codes. Sport and education are the keys to the future of our youth, he said. He requested them to stay away from crime and alcohol and to be aware of the threat of HIV/Aids.
The players who received trophies, medals or certificates for their achievements were: Percy Munonoka (players’ player of the season and top goal scorer); Rudzani Matumba (most disciplined player); Daniel Mukosi (most improved player); Oscar Ramantswana (chairman’s award) and Oscar Mafunisa (goal of the season). Mbengeni “Tshibili” Tshibvumo was rewarded as the best kit manager.
Kaizer Nengovhela started writing stories for Limpopo Mirror in 2000. Prior to that he had a five year stint at Phala-Phala FM as sports presenter. In 2005 Kaizer received an award from the province's premier as Best Sports Presenter. The same year he was also nominated as Best Sports Reporter by the Makhado Municipality. Kaizer was awarded the Mathatha Tsedu award in 2014.
