Muthelo too strong for Vyeboom Barcelona

Sport  Date: 06 July 2012

Muthelo Football Club went through to the next stage of the prestigious Vhembe Mayoral Challenge Cup by beating Vyeboom Barcelona 3-0 at the Vuwani Mandani grounds last Saturday.

Barcelona committed suicide by playing defensive football instead of going for goals.

Although they were out of touch most of the time, Barcelona all-rounder Tombo Ndou remained a living element throughout the game. Tombo was everywhere, delivering telling passes to the frontrunners, who fumbled at the goal finish on a continuous basis.

Muthelo were leading 1-0 when the referee, Mr Phineas Rambau, blew the half-time whistle. The goal came in the 40th minute. Azwinndini Mashigo tried his luck from outside the box and the keeper of Barcelona, Rudzani Muthambi, watched helplessly as the ball hit the back of the net.

The only change Barcelona effected to their original lineup was when they replaced Thilivhali Muavha with Elliot Makhado early in the last half. Muthelo played like a united team with their midfielders, Maduvhahafani Mudologi and Vhonani Munyai, dishing out telling passes to the strikers.

Mashudu Mukhari scored their second goal after a scramble within the Barcelona danger area. The only time Barcelona came close to scoring in the last half was when Tombo Ndou unleashed a volley from the 25-meter area. The keeper of Muthelo, Muambiwa Ndou, palmed the ball away for a corner kick.

Vhonani Munyai scored the third in the 84th minute. Muthelo displayed their dribbling skills for the remaining part of the game.
