Gwamasenga United Brothers beat Maungani Mighty Masters 2- 1 to secure a place in the next stage of the Vhembe Mayoral Challenge Cup. The match was played at the Tshifulanani Stadium on Sunday.

Brothers were unlucky not to score half a dozen of goals during the first half. At that stage, Mighty Masters were disorganised in all departments.

Instead of capitalizing on this, United Brothers continued to shoot aimlessly from the goal mouth. They were awarded a free kick outside the box when the game was 24 minutes old. Rendani Mudau tried his luck and the keeper of Masters, Rhulani Manyike, misjudged the flight of the ball and suffered the pain of watching it go beyond his reach.

Brothers’ diminutive midfielder, Ntambudzeni Mundalamo, was reprimanded with a card for a continued argument with the referee.

The keeper of United Brothers, Oupa Rambuwani, was put to the test in the 34th minute. Nkhanedzeni Nemahunguni of Masters released a rocket from outside the box. Rambuwani braved the shot and executed a brilliant save. Rambuwani’s effort was a morale booster to his teammates.

United Brothers were leading 2-0 at break. Rofhiwa Ganyane scored easily. His shot was deflected into the net by a defender of Masters, Godfrey Tshisikule. Masters were dictating the terms throughout the last half. Their only goal was scored by Nkhanedzeni Nemahunguni in the 68th minute.

Dakalo Mudau of United Brothers was warned with a card for wasting time. Mighty Masters lost a fortune in the 76th minute. They were awarded a penalty after a defender of Brothers, Rendani Sadiki, handled the ball within the box. Thendo Nemahunguni could not believe his eyes when the keeper of Brothers stretched to the limit to palm the ball away for a corner kick. United Brothers packed themselves at the far back in the last 10 minutes in a bid to defend their lead.
