PRETORIA – Dynamos booked a place in the Top 8 stage of the prestigious Coca-Cola Cup KO Competition. This follows their hard earned 1-0 victory over Supersport United at the HM Pitje Stadium in Pretoria on Sunday.
United had themselves to blame for the defeat as they squandered numerous scoring chances throughout the game. The player whose performance was outstanding even in difficult times was the Dynamos keeper, Aime Kitenge. He saved several sure goals as the United goal poacher, Patrick Mayo continuously released hot shots from awkward angles.
The sweeper of Dynamos, Lifa Qosha panicked in the ninth minute and headed the ball back to Kitenge and thus causing an unnecessary corner kick. Two players went into the referee's book towards the end of the first half. Patrick Mayo was booked for protesting, while a defender of Dynamos, Tafunaneye Dodo, was warned for a rough tackle on Tsweu Mokoro.
United replaced Peter Khobane with Cavan Sibeko. Dynamos responded by introducing Sello Ledingwane for Luke Jukulile. Dynamos injected more life into their striking force by bringing on Joel Seroba for Jacky Ledwaba in the 67th minute. This substitution changed the complexion of the game as United's defence spent the better part of the last half running for cover.
Six minutes before full time, Joel Seroba had his volley fisted back into the field of play by the acrobatic United keeper, Grant Johnson. The game advanced to extra time after a goalless full time score. Sello Ledingwane capitalised on the defensive error and scored a golden goal in the first minute of the added time.
