Desperate Dynamos squash Supersport

GIYANI – As if they had won the league title, it was all celebrations at the Giyani Stadium shortly after the Castle Premiership League game between Dynamos Football Club and Supersport United. Dynamos managed to crush Supersport United 1-0, despite squandering numerous obvious scoring opportunities.

The home side did not lose their fighting spirit, despite the fact that one of their midfielders, Martin Carelse, was cautioned with a card for intentional handling of the ball in the fourth minute. The Dynamos' head coach, Antene Asheteh, took much longer to respond to the supporters' demand to have their Zimbabwean international, Adam Ndlovu, replaced.

Ndlovu was out of touch from the onset and the fans booed him each time he touched the ball and signalled for his replacement. Asheteh finally succumbed to the fans' demand by brining on Thomas Ledingwane for Ndlovu, earlier in the last half.

Supersport United came back strongly in the opening minutes of the last stanza. The Dynamos' acrobatic keeper, Duncan Mkhonjwa, denied them two sure goals. In the first instance, Dennis Masina released a ground cutter after a pass by Daniel Matsau. Mkhonjwa was forced to stretch to the limit in order to save the ball. He again palmed Abram Raselemane's volley away for a corner kick a little later.

The goal that earned the Giyani outfit three points came via a substitute, Thomas Ledigwane, in the 70th minute. David Mathebula beat the Supersport defence and, instead of trying his luck, chose to dish the ball to Ledingwane, who gave it the final touch. Two Dynamos defenders, Rodney Thobejane and Isaac Leshabane, were reprimanded with cards for defying the referee's instructions and rough tackling respectively. That was the third victory for the relegation-haunted Dynamos.
