The quarterfinal in the Mulindavhathu Soccer Challenge between Tshifudi XI Experience ad Rambuda Young Fighters, which was scheduled for last Sunday at the Khubvi Benjies grounds, did not materialize.
The two teams were on the pitch at the scheduled 15:00 kick-off time. The match official then ordered the teams to line up, so that the captains could identify the players.
The captain of XI Experience then told the match official that they did not have their identification cards. They team argued that they had registered their players during the week and that it was not possible for the organisers of the tournament to issue the identification cards for their players. The organisers were summoned to the gathering and they confirmed that what XI Experience were saying was true.
The organisers then requested the teams to remain on the pitch while they went to fetch the identification cards from their office, which is situated about a kilometer away from the grounds. It took them about an hour to come back with the cards and, at that stage, it was already too late for the game to start, as there was no way it would finish before it was dark.
After lengthy discussions with the teams’ representatives, it was agreed that the match will be played at the same venue tomorrow afternoon (15:00). The meeting also resolved that the semifinal matches, which were scheduled for this weekend, will now be played next Saturday while the final will be played at the same venue the following day.
The results of the quarterfinal matches played at the same venue last weekend are: Mudaswali United Brothers 8, Tshipako Hotspurs 0; Mukula Young Santos 6, Makonde Young Tigers 2 and The Dolphins FC 5, Mulodi Freedom Birds 3.
