Sport  Date: 27 July 2012

The semifinal matches for the Vhembe District Mayoral Soccer Challenge will be staged at the FNB Makwarela Stadium on Sunday.

Teams that have managed to reach the final stage of the lucrative competition are Ngwenani Young Chiefs, Rockers FC, Madombidzha Arsenal and Muthelo FC. The toss for the semifinal matches was conducted at the Makwarela Stadium shortly after the last quarterfinal match last Saturday. Ngwenani Young Chiefs will play against Rockers FC and Madombidzha Arsenal will meet Muthelo FC.

The first match will be between Ngwenani Young Chiefs and Rockers FC. It is scheduled to kick off at 13:00. Ngwenani Young Chiefs beat Mutandani Pull Together 2-1 at the same venue last Saturday to secure a place in the semifinal.

Rockers’ way to the semifinal stage of the competition went via Matanda Golden Arrows, whom they brutally walloped 4-0. Young Chiefs must keep a close eye on the Rockers' Rastafarian striker, Mukondeleli Tshivhula, or else they will be punished severely. On the other hand, Young Chiefs have reason to believe that their striker, Eric Mangenzhane, and veteran midfielder, Tshifhiwa “One-one” Nedzamba, will make things happen for them. Madombidzha Arsenal will take on Muthelo FC, starting at 15:00.

Muthelo beat Musina United 2-1 while Madombidzha Arsenal beat Khakhanwa United Stars 2-0 .

The final will be played next Saturday, August 3. The champions of the tournament will be presented with a cheque amounting to R40 000, floating trophy and gold medals.
