The Ingwe Ranch Hotel in the Soutpansberg will be a hive of activity tomorrow evening. That is where people from the Nzhelele Valley who took part in the development of sports in different ways from 1965 until 1995 will be rewarded.
According to one of the organizers, Mr Takalani Rabali, 45 people will receive awards during the ceremony. Rabali revealed that some of the awards will be made posthumously.
He added that the late Mr Khorommbi Donald Dzagana will be rewarded. Dzagana was the managing director of the first professional side in Vhembe District, Rabali Blackpool, better known as Matari a a fhambana.
The founder-member of Rabali Home Defenders, Mr Josias “Chopper” Mungomeni, will also receive an award. Mungomeni is the father of the Moroka Swallows right back, Luvhengo Mungomeni.
Rabali revealed that the decision to give awards to the legends was reached after it was realized that they had not received the recognition they deserved during their time, despite their huge contribution to sports.
The ceremony will start at 18:00.
Frank is a Human Resources Manager at the Department of Public Works in Limpopo. He is the longest serving correspondent of the Mirror, having joined us at the end of 1990. He mainly writes sports reports and resides at Tsianda Village. In 2004, Frank won the National Castle League Award, an award for the best reporter in the SAB league in South Africa.
